Worldwide, more than two billion people have been infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV); at least 350 million are chronically infected. An estimated 170 to 200 million people have been infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV); as many as 130 million are chronically infected. Both viruses can lead to cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver failure.
Using a multidisciplinary approach, including molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology technologies, the objective of our research is to gain a deeper understanding of virus-host interactions at a fundamental level. It is very essential that we have the capabilities to carry out a full cycle of research, including epidemiological studies, vaccine candidate design, modelling, construction of protein variants and their structurally functional investigation.
