Million Microbiome of Humans Project


 

 

From January 6 to January 8 at China National Gene Bank in Shenzhen took place international cooperation programmes “Million Microbiome of Humans Project, MMHP” first meeting, where also participated the director of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Studies Centre Jānis Kloviņš.

 

The project has a very ambitious and unprecedented aim - with a view to creating a different racial, age, gender, health status maps of human microbiome including at least 1 million metagenome analyses.

The project aims to involve partners from around the world. Latvia's name is in the number of project initiators. Latvia was represented at the conference by director of Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre Jānis Kloviņš and director of Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine Mārcis Leja. They were presenting the research performed in this field in Latvia so far.

MMHP is supported by the internationally leading experts in molecular biology – the BGI Company. Their daughter company MGI is also established in Latvia.
